The Rhine Falls: Sightseeing at Europe’s Largest Plain Waterfall

Thinking about going on a holiday? How about visiting the Europe’s largest plain waterfall? The Rhine Falls is situated at Schaffhausen, Switzerland. The total height of the waterfall is 75 feet and the total width of the waterfall is 450 feet. It is believed that the Rhine Falls were naturally formed during the ice age. It is strategically placed in the middle of the Lake Constance and Basel.

The Rhine Fall receives all the water from the Rhine River which comes flowing through the villages and old castle. The cascading waterfall comes pouring down and meets the sea. The top view gives the best view of the Rhine Falls.

Getting There

The best time to visit the Rhine Falls is during spring and summer. You can reach the Rhine falls through railroad. You can start off at the Zürich Hauptbahnhof and get down at Schaffhausen. It takes around 25 minutes to reach Schaffhausen. From here, you can walk westwards for nearly to reach Rhine Falls or you can catch a local train and Neuhausen and then walk towards to Rhine Falls to reach there in few minutes.

Another option available to you at Schaffhausen is to go a bus ride to Neuhausen and then walk to the water fall.

If you are traveling by car to Rhine Falls, you need drive 3 kilometers in the south direction from Schaffhausen and head on towards Zuirch. As you drive ahead, you will start seeing indicators ‘Laufen: Rheinfall’. Within minutes you will be at the Rhine Falls by following the indicators. You can park your car at Schloss Laufen and then walk on to falls.
